Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un b\u00e2timent de 16 \u00e9tages circulaires comptant pr\u00e8s de 2 500 marches et environ 80 paliers offrant des perspectives sur le fleuve Hudson et sur Manhattan. Il s\u2019inspire du concept des puits \u00e0 degr\u00e9s indiens qui se distinguent par l\u2019entrecroisement d\u2019une multitude d\u2019escaliers dessinant une seule trame r\u00e9guli\u00e8re permettant d\u2019acc\u00e9der \u00e0 l\u2019eau quel que soit le niveau. De plus, l&rsquo;objet devait \u00eatre autoportant et une solution structurelle discr\u00e8te qui n&rsquo;avait pas besoin de colonnes et de poutres suppl\u00e9mentaires \u00e9tait n\u00e9cessaire. Ce probl\u00e8me a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9solu en ins\u00e9rant une fibre en acier entre chaque paire d\u2019escaliers, cr\u00e9ant une division naturelle entre \u00abhaut\u00bb et \u00abbas\u00bb. Il faut souligner que pour la r\u00e9alisation de l\u2019ouvrage 75 pi\u00e8ces d\u2019acier colossales ont \u00e9t\u00e9 construites \u00e0 Venise puis achemin\u00e9es aux \u00c9tats-Unis en 6 exp\u00e9ditions navales.
